[01:20:42] <calamitous> lovetocode999: Yep! It's going to depend on what client you're using, but you should be able to connect fine.
[01:21:01] <calamitous> Give me a shout if you have any questions about it
[01:37:48] <lovetocode999> calamitous: Ok, thanks. I tried to connect to my email by using ctrl-c.club as both the SMTP and IMAP servers, with 993 as the port for IMAP, and 587 as the port for SMTP, but it refused to connect. Should I be using different settings? If so, which ones?

[01:45:45] <calamitous> lovetocode999: Unfortunately we don't have SSL set up for email at the moment. Try the non-SSL ports for IMAP and SMTP (143 and 25)
[01:46:21] <calamitous> I'm trying to connect as well. It's been a long time since I used anything but mutt :)

[13:51:42] <lovetocode999> Good morning!
[13:57:36] <felix> Hello!
[14:20:52] <lovetocode999> How are you this morning?
[14:26:44] <felix> Well, somewhat productive for a change. You?
[14:37:39] <lovetocode999> Tis always nice to be productive! I am well, and also productive ;)
[14:38:45] <felix> Ooh, making something fun, or just chores and homework?
[14:40:16] <lovetocode999> Just homework right now, but I had a great game idea that I'm hoping I can implement sometime soon
[14:40:43] <lovetocode999> Since I am ahead on homework, I might have the time this week which would be amazing
[14:41:44] <lovetocode999> Are you working on anything fun?
[14:56:29] <felix> Hopefully! Something I meant to do for a while.
[14:56:50] <felix> Reviving a text adventure engine.
[15:00:27] <felix> What's your game idea?
[15:05:24] <lovetocode999> Fun! My idea is a cross between pong and breakout: There is one ball and two players, the edges are made up of blocks that can be broken by the ball and allow it to pass through, and there are four paddles, two on each side of a diagonal. Each player controls the paddles on their side of a diagonal, and try to hit the ball through an edge on the other side of the diagonal. As the game
[15:05:26] <lovetocode999> progresses, the speed of the ball, and thereby, the difficulty of the game, increases.
[15:11:49] <felix> I see! Sounds good.
[15:22:19] <lovetocode999> How does a text adventure engine work? I've only ever played text adventures, I have no experience with making them.
[15:37:04] <felix> I wrote about that not long ago, amusingly enough.
[15:37:20] <felix> https://notimetoplay.org
[15:53:08] <lovetocode999> Oh, cool
[15:53:32] <lovetocode999> Sorry about the late response, I was very involved in figuring out electron configurations
[15:54:49] <felix> :P
[15:54:59] <felix> No problem! Thanks!
[16:01:30] <lovetocode999> You are welcome!
[16:13:40] <timemachine> Hello!
[16:16:48] <felix> o/
[16:25:27] <calamitous> Howdy!
[16:25:53] <lovetocode999> Hi!
[16:28:37] <felix> How is everyone?
[16:34:35] <calamitous> Good. :)
[16:35:34] <calamitous> Hey, I saw your earlier message. If you just want to write up a text adventure, we have Inform 6 and Inform 7 installed. Those are programming languages specifically for writing text adventures. :)
[16:35:57] <calamitous> If you're looking for an excuse to build an engine, I totally understand that too ;)
[16:37:16] <felix> I have an Inform 6 adventure mirrored on Ctrl-C, complete with source.
[16:51:53] <felix> Inform has its place. I re-learned it this spring.
[16:54:14] <felix> It involved re-reading two thick books. Great books, but still.
[16:54:46] <felix> Admittedly that's half of what you need to learn TADS.
[17:39:15] <calamitous> Ah, very cool. :)

[21:46:34] <kiiwiiwastaken> Hey so I'm not sure if this is a ctrl-c issue or if it's tildegit, but I can't seem to sign up on tildegit using my ctrl-c email. I get an email but the link doesn't work when I copy-paste it into the browser
[21:50:02] <justus> Were you having this same issue a few days ago or was that someone else?
[21:50:30] <kiiwiiwastaken> I haven't mentioned this here, but I talked about it a few days ago in #meta
[21:51:08] <justus> That's right
[21:51:18] <justus> Are you copying the link out of your terminal?
[21:52:01] <kiiwiiwastaken> Yeah
[21:52:50] <justus> Maybe try forwarding the email to yourself at your regular address and clicking the link there just in case your terminal is doing something weird to the link?
[21:53:09] <justus> And request a new email, since I'm guessing the code probably expires
[21:53:34] <justus> I signed up for Tildegit using my ctrl-c email a week or two ago and it worked fine
[21:53:34] <kiiwiiwastaken> I'm not sure how to forward the email.. the mail command isn't intuitive and reading the manpage still confuses me on how to forward
[21:53:48] <justus> What client?
[21:54:09] <kiiwiiwastaken> idk it's just the "mail" command via ssh
[21:59:14] <justus> Try using mutt or apline instead @kiiwiiwastaken
[21:59:19] <justus> Way easier
[22:01:02] <kiiwiiwastaken> oh crap didn't know there are other clients available
[22:01:10] <kiiwiiwastaken> alpine looks a lot like nano lol
[22:01:51] <kiiwiiwastaken> Yes!
[22:01:58] <kiiwiiwastaken> I got it activated, thank you!
[22:02:30] <justus> Excellent! Glad that worked!
[22:02:39] <justus> I don't really know what I'm doing either
