[13:47:52] <philips> working on anything cool these days?
[13:53:30] <fleg> nothing new, still the old stuff
[13:54:28] <philips> what is the old stuff? haha
[13:54:54] <fleg> my Jekyll -> Gemini converter :P
[13:55:23] <philips> I heard about Gemini only yesterday, is it very text-y like HTTP?
[13:55:42] <fleg> I'd compare it to Gopher more than HTTP
[14:00:03] * philips is looking at Gopher`s wikipedia page
[14:02:01] <fleg> it's basically a protocol which allows only really basic text, with almost no formatting
[14:02:58] <fleg> links cannot be inline, only in a separate lines (paragraphs?)
[14:03:34] <fleg> simple formatting like headers, code blocks, bold and italics, unnumbered lists and that's basically it
[14:05:13] <philips> Yeah I'm reading the FAQ now https://gemini.circumlunar.space

[17:15:39] <jlj> Oops, sorry! Busy. :-P Just finishing up the work day. How are you?
[17:18:34] <felix> So-so today.
[17:18:45] <felix> No need to apologize!
[17:19:00] <felix> I'm just happy activity on Iris has picked up.
[17:20:08] <jlj> Whoa! 61 unread messages! Picked up, indeed. Gotta pop back on there. :-)
[17:22:25] <lovetocode999> O/
[17:22:32] <felix> \o
[17:22:33] <lovetocode999> s/O\//o/
[17:22:46] <jlj> :-D
[17:22:57] <lovetocode999> Hello!
[17:23:13] <lovetocode999> How are you all today?
[17:23:22] <jlj> Hey! Yeah, good, thanks. You?
[17:24:24] <lovetocode999> I am well! What about you, felix?
[17:24:33] <felix> Been writing lately.
[17:24:48] <lovetocode999> Oh, fun! What have you been writing?
[17:26:49] <felix> A story, for once. My first substantial work of fiction in two years.
[17:27:46] <lovetocode999> Nice!
[17:27:54] <jlj> Neat! Can I find your other stuff somewhere?
[17:30:04] <felix> Yeah, on my personal site.
[17:30:19] <felix> https://felix.plesoianu.ro
[17:30:28] <jlj> Cool! I'll check it out!
[17:30:35] <felix> Thanks! You're very kind.
[17:32:27] <felix> Afraid that meant setting computer stuff aside.
[17:33:06] <jlj> Yeah, only so many hours in the day. :-)
[17:36:23] <felix> Do you have anything going on outside of work?
[17:37:16] <jlj> Well, it's self-study, for work, but I need to work on my home Splunk deployment.
[17:37:46] <jlj> Every time I come to the old x86 laptops, time slows. :-P
[17:37:54] <felix> Aw. :)
[17:38:27] <jlj> Spent much of Monday compiling the latest version of syslog-ng on them, as you can't get an x86 build of Splunk's universal forwarder anymore.
[17:38:46] <jlj> So I'll send all the logs to my syslog server and ingest them from there.
[17:38:51] <jlj> It's all fun, though.
[17:39:19] <jlj> Prior to that I was playing with my home Vault deployment a lot, again, as a self-study project.
[17:39:44] <jlj> Doing a lot around monitoring it with Telegraf, InfluxDB and Grafana.
[17:40:58] <felix> Sounds complex!
[17:41:04] <jlj> The Consul team have actually released a Grafana dashboard recently, but it's backed by Prometheus. I want to translate the PromQL to InfluxQL (or whatever InfluxDB language is... it's escaping me now); but that's gonna take time too.
[17:41:27] <felix> I'm not even sure what most of that is.
[17:41:32] <jlj> A lot of moving parts, yup. Looks pretty, in the end, though. :-D
[17:41:54] <jlj> It's another stack, like the ELK stack, if you've heard of that one.
[17:42:12] <jlj> Oh, kids are home from nursery. Time to be Dad. TTYL!
[17:42:42] <felix> Bye!
[19:23:40] -!- felix has quit [Client exited]
[20:35:36] -!- gavodavo has quit [The TLS connection was non-properly terminated.]
[21:27:20] <jlj> felix: just bought a copy of Vryheid. :-)
