About this Gemini capsule

I applaud, and feel obliged to support, any and all efforts to carve out a small piece of the Internet for non-commercial purposes. While I remain somewhat uncertain about the future of the Gemini and similar protocols, I'm certain they won't succeed if there's no content available.

So I'm converting some of the content from my main website, and adding some additional material that won't ever be on my main website, either because it's too distant from my main interests or, frankly, not safe for work.

There isn't a lot here at present: converting material into Gemini/Spartan format isn't something that can be automated. I'm starting with the stuff that's mostly text, because that's the easiest to convert. Pages with a few images aren't too difficult to handle, but complicated layout -- like tables and annotated source code listings -- are a different matter.

Part of the reason I'm doing this is to get a feel for how easy it is to write and maintain a Gemini capsule alongside a regular website. It's plausible that I can find a document format that can be converted to both with minimal loss of detail, but I have yet to be convinced.

In the meantime, I hope that something I post is of some interest to people who prefer to use old-timey ways to browse the Internet, over the beeping, flashing, data-harvesting behemoths of the commercial web.

Converted from my Gemini capsule.

Please note: This content is moving to a new Gemini capsule, and there's a new HTML mirror here. I won't be updating these pages in future.
