Your 1990s TV Schedule

Sometimes I get bitten by a nostalgia bug, usually this results in me gathering old tech-relics or playing DOS games, but this time I want to focus on 90's TV.

For some it's already hard to comprehend the feeling of looking forward for your favorite show to air (or at least ensure your VCR is set up to record it). While you did have a choice between a select number of channels, you were limited to the programming of that night. The only thing close to on-demand was going to your local video rental store.

So let me give you my programmed schedule for a 1990's tv evening:

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water: "The Girl at the Eiffel Tower" S01E01

More of a Saturday morning scheduling, but I did not want to leave this one out. The pilot episode for a sci-fi adventure story set in the late 19th century drawing inspiration from Jules Vernes stories.

Wiki IMDB

The Wonder Years: "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" S03E14

On Valentine's Day with Winnie upset at him, Kevin decides to send her a valentine to try and win her over. However his plan goes awry when the valentine is accidentally delivered to Becky Slater, who then thinks that Kevin wants her back.

Personal note: Love the use of the song 'What becomes of the Brokenhearted" by Jimmy Ruffin

Parker Lewis Can't Lose: "Parker Lewis Must Lose" S01E04

The vote for Class President is coming up and Parker decides Becky Grant deserves to win. The problem is the way the students feel, even if he dropped dead, Parker Lewis is sure to win the vote.

IMDB

Movie: Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

A popular high school student, admired by his peers, decides to take a day off from school and goes to extreme lengths to pull it off, to the chagrin of his Principal, who'll do anything to stop him.

Personal note: Nowadays we are spoiled in the sense that movies are available for streaming only month after theatrical release. In the 90s, there would first be a VHS release a year later and a couple years after that, the movie would be shown on regular tv.
