When it’s cold, I write!
Hello, it’s gome, back for what is hopefully another good solid run of daily posting. I received a nice message recently that made me remember I wanted to get back in the habit, so thanks for that (you know who you are)! And I’ll use this as a reminder that I really do like to receive email from people who see the site. I almost always reply, unless your mail provider doesn’t allow delivery of mail from the ctrl-c.club domain.
It seems I tend to do the most writing on gomepage when the winter comes around. The 100-day challenge went over the winter, and last year when I had some free time around Christmas and New Year’s, I brought the habit back again for about a month.
Well, today my thermostat went out and I woke up to sub 60°F (15°C) temperatures in my house. So, what better time to start my cold-posting spell than right now! No wonder so many of my posts are about winter.
This year, rather than writing, I spent a lot of my gomepage time working on two games.* One was Server Pets, which broke my heart and which I haven’t been able to return to yet. The other was more successful: a Panel de Pon inspired game which I released as part of the Webpage Jam this year.
I didn’t write the whole game just over the course of the jam: I had been working on a version of the game written in Lua (using the LÖVE framework) with my brother since the beginning of the year, so pretty much all the core representation and logic was in place already. The webpage jam project was more of a matter of porting the code to Javascript using Pixi, which was actually a lot easier than I expected, and then building a webpage around it.
I’m glad I worked on that this year; it’s my first time actually putting out a completed game project for people to play. And thanks to everyone who’s tried it and given me nice feedback about it!
But now it’s time to write for a while again. I love going back through my posts and remembering what I’ve thought about, in a much more concrete way than vague memories usually afford. The older they get, the more precious my old posts feel to me. It makes me want to have a slightly bigger pile of these little gems waiting for me to peruse next year.
Do you have a writing habit you want to get back into?
Do you have another habit you want to get back into?
Is it getting really cold where you live?
Have you published something you’re proud of this year?

* Honorable mention to the writing I did on songbook, a mini-blog I added to practice writing about music I like. It’s been sporadic, and I’d like to do more of it, but I’m happy with the number of posts I have on there for now.
