They got me with this postcard

Today, I got this postcard in the mail from a company that makes statues and statuettes. I actually have no clue how they got my address. On the front they had a little fisher boy statue which looked reasonably good. On the back they had this atrocious “mooning gnome” with his butt out, tacky, grotesque, and awful to look at. That’s not behavior becoming of a gnome, I’ll tell you that much.

So anyway, I do like having a few little statues here & there, if they fit my tastes. And the postcard offered a code for 15% off. So I ended up checking out their website and having a lot of fun. I’m not going to name the company because I don’t like to do free advertising (or any advertising, for that matter). But I’ll share some of the statues that tickled my fancy.

Upon loading the site, I was greeted by the following banner:

Both of those creatures have fantastic expressions, reminiscent of the following:

So that was a lot of fun, and I soon found myself browsing the bountifully-stocked animal section of the site.

Here we have, clockwise from upper left:

They had some other interesting ones, and a good number of horrendous gnomes. A couple of the gnomes were almost my style, but I’m not really in the market for gnomes right now anyway (I have Barvis Mikey Holth). The ones in the collage above were probably my favorites, save for one last statue that totally enchanted me:

I think this one’s just great. I like that there are three friends and they’re having so much fun! They’re doing a kickline! And it has the added utility of welcoming people to your home.

I’m not an impulse buyer, but I’m very close to actually getting this one, once I’ve thought it over. Especially with the 15% off (and possibly 10% more), it seems like not a bad deal for something so cute and fun. I usually try to avoid advertisements and ignore their effects as well as I can, but this time it’s like I was sniped out of nowhere by a random company that had exactly what I wanted. In an era of overwhelmingly digital ads, there might still be potential in marketing by mail!

Have you ever gotten hooked by a mail ad? Are you usually resistant to advertising? Do you like little statues? Let me know your thoughts at my Ctrl-C email: gome @ ctrl-c.club.
