White Room — Mid-Air Thief
- technique of taking a short vocal sample on a single note and looping it forwards & backwards to hold
- beats are in triple, until chorus
- distinct change in vocal timbre in chorus — brighter
- basic texture will stay fairly consistent in a section, with a lot of figure over it (different instruments, “sound units”, “gestural complexes” (better word??))
- section “do so se” in bass returns after first chorus — with more percussion & white noise but same base
when the strange noises kick in after the initial section, feels like a room that is off-balance?
the feeling is playful/mercurial — texture feels like it can transform often, even if in reality there is a base that carries you along most of the time. there is also a sense of wistfulness/regret maybe
the use of acoustic guitar and “naturalistic” percussion grounds the use of synths and other digital production
