[13:50:04] <felix> o/
[13:50:25] <aravk> \o
[13:53:32] <felix> What's new?
[13:53:38] <aravk> not much
[13:53:43] <aravk> actually
[13:53:56] <aravk> I wrote an event loop library that doesn't care about threads
[13:54:04] <felix> Oh nice!
[13:54:05] <aravk> I have 4 times as much documentation as code or smth
[13:54:14] <aravk> yeah it's fun
[13:54:18] <felix> That's how it should be!
[13:54:26] <aravk> I never thought I'd get into UI but this isn't so bad (yet)
[13:54:43] <felix> :D
[13:54:47] <aravk> I also ended up reinventing asynchronous code
[13:54:52] <felix> Hee!
[13:54:59] <aravk> but it's pretty fun overall
[13:55:01] <aravk> :)
[13:55:04] <aravk> you?
[13:55:27] <felix> I made a binding of curses to Duktape, and started porting an old roguelike to it.
[13:55:36] <felix> But overworked myself and had to take a break.
[13:55:56] <aravk> ooh, sounds fun
[13:56:09] <felix> Turns out to be, surprisingly!
[13:56:29] <aravk> I've tried repeatedly to model Dungeons & Dragons for my own RPG game but always gave up
[13:56:32] <aravk> not sure why
[13:58:04] <felix> It's a notoriously tricky system to adapt for computers.
[13:58:15] <aravk> yeah, mostly because the rule 'specific > general'
[13:58:21] <aravk> makes it very difficult to reason about stuff
[13:58:34] <aravk> because everything affects everything
[13:58:43] <felix> I have one made for videogames.
[13:58:46] <felix> BRB.
[14:03:49] -!- anton has quit [Ping timeout: 120 seconds]
[14:12:33] <felix> Back.
[14:21:11] <aravk> how many of your projects have reached a usable state?
[14:21:53] <felix> Used to be, I could say consistently half.
[14:22:12] <aravk> that's a pretty good ratio
[14:22:13] <felix> Meanwhile I lost track.
[14:22:18] <aravk> mine is at like 2/35
[14:22:22] <felix> Aw.
[14:22:44] <aravk> my old github had far too many things going on
[14:23:53] <felix> Can't blame you.
[14:29:36] <aravk> what's going on in your life?
[14:30:03] <felix> Nothing much these days.
[14:30:14] <felix> Most of my life is online.
[14:30:36] <felix> Been trying to take it easy as of late and tie up some loose ends.
[14:35:18] <aravk> hmm
[14:35:25] <aravk> I'm moving soon
[14:35:35] <aravk> so have begun packing
[14:35:40] <aravk> though strangely not super excited
[14:35:47] <aravk> just neutral
[14:36:01] <felix> Good luck!
[14:37:42] <felix> So you make games?
[14:48:12] <aravk> I don't have a job
[14:48:15] <aravk> I don't need a job
[14:48:20] <aravk> I just do programming
[14:48:59] <aravk> whether it's programming languages, operating systems, reminder apps, build systems, UI libraries, or occasionally games
[14:57:33] <felix> Heh! Kind of the same here.
[14:58:01] <felix> Well, I'd take work if anyone was doing any IT work worth doing.
[15:09:08] <aravk> true
[15:15:25] <felix> Anyway, you might like this: gemini://gemini.ctrl-c.club
[15:32:23] <aravk> that looks awesome, thanks

[19:14:28] <timemachine> Adding a samba share to my Raspberry Pi today. Installed Gitea on it yesterday ... Pi-hole the day before.
[19:39:00] <aravk> timemachine: debian?
[19:39:08] <timemachine> yup
[19:39:09] <aravk> or vanilla raspabin
[19:39:15] <aravk> alright, cool
[19:39:21] <aravk> s/ab/ba/
[19:39:26] <aravk> no wait
[19:39:59] <timemachine> kenel 5.4.51-v7+
[19:40:09] <aravk> I must say 5.8 is pretty broken
[19:40:17] <aravk> (running gentoo, not on pi)
[19:40:29] <timemachine> oh, how does that work?
[19:40:30] <aravk> though I've got ArchLinuxARM on my RPi, which is pretty smooth
[19:40:56] <aravk> timemachine: wdym by 'that'
[19:41:17] <timemachine> This is a RPi 3B which is handling the DNS and file server tasks like a dream.
[19:41:59] <aravk> I really should setup Pi-Hole etc. on my pi
[19:42:05] <timemachine> I have a 4Tb disk on it. I wish it had USB 3 ports but file transfer time are still good as it is now.
[19:42:18] <aravk> that's a big disk
[19:42:34] <timemachine> you should set up Pi hole. Browsing the web is SOOO much better will a unified ad blocker.
[19:42:51] <timemachine> s/will/with/
[19:42:58] <aravk> funnily enough, I don't encounter that many ads anyways
[19:43:03] <aravk> at least, I don't see that many ads
[19:43:59] <timemachine> Never look in the network tab when on a disney owned property (like ESPN) there is so much tracking.
[19:45:38] <timemachine> it also blacklists maleware and phishing sites; which makes me happy when the family is using their phones.
[19:47:47] <aravk> yeah, pi-hole sounds good
[19:52:19] <timemachine> one more nice thing is that it is a full DNS server so I can add the domains for all the computers in my house with static IP addresses and then ssh into my desktop from my laptops without dickering with the /etc/hosts files. Things just work. All the other computers on the network know where Gitea is by hostname. no more setting things up. My phones can view the draphs of my blog posts before
[19:52:21] <timemachine> I publish them without thinging about IP addresses.
[19:52:54] <aravk> oh, that's brilliant
[19:53:47] <aravk> What I want most is to self-host my server
[19:53:54] <aravk> i.e. one that is in my house
[19:54:01] <aravk> maybe my pi
