A well researched analysis of indigenous, pre-columbian desing. It goes beyond mere aesthethics and takes into consideration their understanding of nature, the divine* and how their society worked.
I'm not gonna lie. I bought it mainly because of the pretty pictures and patterns. Since I had been into woodcarving for a while by then, I thought it would make excellent inspiration for a project. The book turned out to be interesting beyond the imagery. A must read if you are looking to get a glimpse of the early american people's design and lifestyle.
It even came with a cute CD with a bunch of pictures. Since I am a normal person, I do not own a CD reader. The images shall wait until I descend furhter into madness and decide to spend money on such a thing. Until then, I leave you here a picture of the Selk'nam. Really scary folk.
*It's not so clear they had a clear division of the "real world" and the "spiritual world". Imagine living life surrounded by all these colorfull patterns, shamans with scary masks and rituals filled up with psychodelichs.
