[2026-04-05T04:23:49Z] call it a neccessary evil [2026-04-05T04:24:13Z] also if a subreddit doesnt render in firefox, its not firefox's fault, its most likely reddit :p [2026-04-05T04:24:36Z] sometimes I even get ip blocket by reddit. but I just need to reload, and its fine all of a sudden [2026-04-05T04:50:05Z] i just wish people would adhere to open standards instead of doing walled garden shit [2026-04-05T04:50:08Z] it's so annoying [2026-04-05T04:50:26Z] just a few years ago i could get away with links and a handful of shell scripts and now i'm back to needing a fucking browser and even then it barely works [2026-04-05T05:08:45Z] reddit and everything else have been working fine for me on librewolf [2026-04-05T05:08:52Z] firefox too for that matter [2026-04-05T05:09:06Z] i dont bother changing any settings on firefox though [2026-04-05T05:17:07Z] I agree midfavila. standards are there for a reason, but it doesnt really matter if noone is following them, and its all just a bunch of non-standard shit, and for the web to work, browsers needs to implement unneccessary stuff... [2026-04-05T05:27:21Z] god and now i'm doing groceries for the month and freaking about that [2026-04-05T05:27:35Z] haven't touched anything on my usual list since the start of the year and it's up to 600 bucks a month [2026-04-05T05:27:40Z] all i buy is store brand stuff aa [2026-04-05T05:27:43Z] * midfavila screams [2026-04-05T05:27:47Z] the botnet wants me to starve [2026-04-05T06:32:36Z] sad_plan: Have you seen the sponsors of Ladybird? I'm not saying it's a dealbreaker but it's not a good look. Though, I don't know what kind of sponsors would be a good look. [2026-04-05T06:36:53Z] I have seen the sponsor list yes. I didnt think much of it. If it doesnt make the software worse, I dont see why this is an issue [2026-04-05T06:42:57Z] Guest23 what do you mean? [2026-04-05T06:43:23Z] nevermind i see what you mean [2026-04-05T06:43:34Z] >platinum sponsors: cloudflare shopify [2026-04-05T06:43:45Z] yikes [2026-04-05T06:45:21Z] you were supposed to save us [2026-04-05T06:45:25Z] instead you betrayed us [2026-04-05T06:45:40Z] spooks me when i see things like that but its probably not the end of the world [2026-04-05T06:45:44Z] andreas kling how fucking could you [2026-04-05T06:46:14Z] and now apparently he's planning on porting it to rust [2026-04-05T06:46:20Z] fucking hell [2026-04-05T06:46:28Z] time to go to uni and learn to write a fucking browser on my own i guess [2026-04-05T07:30:05Z] yeah the rust part I didnt like too much either. but im not supprised really. everyone wanna use these modern safe languages now.. kinda suprised webkit hasnt started using that yet [2026-04-05T07:52:57Z] https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=J7imQq-4pgA [2026-04-05T13:56:01Z] here's something interesting when making backups with rsync and tar archives. Which one might want to do if the target is an HDD NAS. [2026-04-05T13:56:45Z] the gzip command has a special flag named --rsyncable which allows the use of rsync's delta algorithm with .tar.gz archives. [2026-04-05T13:57:56Z] so one could just create a new archive via tar -c source-folder | gzip --rsyncable > output.tar.gz and have that be delta-transferable to an older version on the target storage [2026-04-05T17:41:27Z] midfavila: There's also Futo among the sponsors. I haven't heard good things about them. [2026-04-05T17:59:12Z] idk anything about futo [2026-04-05T17:59:18Z] sounds like some fintech company [2026-04-05T18:26:55Z] thats louis rossmans thing [2026-04-05T19:12:52Z] oh fuck rossman [2026-04-05T19:13:04Z] he's trying to monetise FOSS [2026-04-05T19:13:41Z] le heckin' wholesome repair guy does some good work but monetising foss is bullshit [2026-04-05T19:13:52Z] people who can pay will [2026-04-05T19:14:00Z] people who won't will get a copy from those who can [2026-04-05T19:14:07Z] if you restrict that, it's not libre software any more [2026-04-05T19:14:23Z] thus the traditional capitalist model of induced scarcity for digital goods is fundamentally incompatible with free software [2026-04-05T19:14:45Z] you can't split the difference. you need to choose one side or the other.
