[2026-04-20T22:10:22Z] you know it's kind of sad that there's so little choice in the OS world these days [2026-04-20T22:10:51Z] i think there's something to be said for the learning opportunities that would be provided by using something like minix or sysv or bsd in the 80s [2026-04-20T22:11:31Z] constant intrinsic incentive to learn and tinker and fiddle and tweak and tune your system and share those changes with others, while the base system itself remained relatively simple and straightforward [2026-04-20T22:11:48Z] nowadays everyone just uses linux or windows [2026-04-20T22:11:51Z] or mac i guess [2026-04-20T22:12:43Z] sure, we have xv6 and stuff, but... that's kind of a synthetic environment. at the end of the day you just go back to linux or windows or whatever until you need to do another assignment
